Ty Coffi Griffith-Reade – The Griffith-Reade Coffee House

Ty Coffi Griffith-Reade – The Griffith-Reade Coffee House, Llanfaethlu This house was set up in 1892 to foster temperance in the village of Llanfaethlu by Maria Emma Elizabeth Conway Griffiths, Lady Reade of Garreglwyd, following the death of her husband, Sir Chandos Stanhope Hoskyns Reade, 8th Baronet of Shipton, Oxford, in 1890 of the effects of an over fondness of alcoholic beverages. At the same time, she forced the closure of the village’s two public houses. The Coffee House remains open. It also serves as a village hall, post office and Lifelong Education Centre.
